SCOPE OF WORK

This breathtaking, contemporary, window-filled lakefront home nestles into the mountainside along the shores of the European-like Lake Lure in Western North Carolina.  The home’s wood-clad ceiling greets visitors at the front porch, cantilevered overhead, and slopes gently and continuously north, carrying you through the home and out to the edge of the rear lakefront deck, bringing the panoramic lake and mountain views into focus. A window-wrapped roof monitor pierces the single-sloping shed roofline, spilling light into the center of the home.  The land was purchased in 2021 as a second home, a destination for large family gatherings.  With over two acres and more than 350 feet of shoreline, the land provides magical views of Rumbling Bald and Youngs Mountains, and encloses a private cove and beach on its western edge, a perfect location to tuck the boathouse.  Intentionally efficient space planning allows the home to welcome 18 guests in a little over four thousand square feet, touching the ground lightly with its compact footprint, while meeting the family’s needs with a mudroom, two separate laundry spaces, a spacious yet cozy den in addition to the main living area, and a home gym.  The Scandinavian-inspired interior is adorned with rift-sawn white oak and warm white tones, while a black marble fluted fireplace wall anchors one end of the great room and a black fluted island anchors the other. The white oak arched bar adds softness, situated between the rectangular oak outline of the window seat and the seamless oak cabinetry wall of the adjacent kitchen, behind which hides the entrance to the scullery.   The deck features a custom limestone arched fireplace and incorporates retractable screens and heaters for year-round enjoyment.  The twenty-foot-wide sliding glass door and transom windows between the great room and deck create a true indoor-outdoor experience.

The saturation of the all-black primary bedroom emphasizes the view of the lake and mountains, with a slatted walnut bed wall warming the space and wrapping partially across the ceiling.  The bunk room incorporates eight custom built-in walnut beds with integrated ladders, storage, and charging niches.  Additional softness and sophistication are layered throughout the home: a walnut-wrapped egg-shaped reading nook, three-dimensional acoustic forest green velvet wallpaper accenting the den, curved elements built into custom millwork, rounded-back dining and casual chairs, and even a wood-clad spiral stair leading from the deck down to the spa.

Along with the spa, this mountain retreat offers a sauna, lakefront ping pong on a beautiful teak table, and a pickleball court. A 1200 square foot boathouse nestled in the cove has two slips – one for a wake boat and a sunken one for effortless loading onto kayaks and paddle boards.  The boathouse echoes the house’s design, matching its green-and-black paint scheme, warm wood-toned doors, and spiral staircase. The landscape showcases Japandi-inspired design in its plant selections, cut Crab Orchard Stone steps that cascade down the cobble-filled hill, and the impressive 7’ Corten steel moon gate.
